Armenian troops breach ceasefire with Azerbaijan

The situation on the contact line between Azerbaijan and Armenia has remained tense as the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire a total of 64 times throughout the day, Azerbaijan`s Defense Ministry reported on April 30.

The ceasefire was violated in Kemerli village of Gazakh region, Agbulag village of Tovuz region, Talish, Tap Garagoyunlu, Gulustan villages of Goranboy region, Chileburt, Goyarkh, Chayli, Giziloba villages in Tartar region, Shuraabad, Shikhlar, Javahirli, Sarijali, Yusifjanli, Shirvanli villages in Aghdam region, Kuropatkino village in Khojavand region, Horadiz, Gorgan, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli villages in Fuzuli region, as well as nameless hills in Goranboy, Khojavand and Fuzuli regions.

The enemy was silenced with a retaliatory fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
