Armed Forces complete first ever night drills

The Azerbaijani Armed Forces carried out their first night exercises as part of large-scale military drills, according to the Defense Ministry.

Based on the training plan, the main forces and protection units fulfilled the tasks set as part of the conditional battle during the night exercise on April 9.

The infantry and tank units, missile and artillery weapons, anti-aircraft missile systems, combat jets and helicopters of the armed forces conducted combat firings and rocket launches, as well as bombing attacks at the polygon.

The armed forces showed their high-level skills in accomplishing the all exercise stages with a high accuracy and professionalism during the first ever ground drills at night and low light conditions in the Azerbaijani army's history.

Defense Minister, Zakir Hasanov and Senior Deputy Defense Minister, Chief of Staff of the Army, Najmaddin Sadigov observed the training in person, where they viewed the plans, decisions and the headquarters developed for the extensive drills.

Colonel General Hasanov highly appreciated the combat and moral readiness, the army's sustainable capability and its force structure.

A post-exercise briefing delivered detailed information about the troops' combat readiness -- operative readiness and interaction, weapons and military equipment for the night exercises.

Nearly 15,000 personal, 200 armored equipment, over 300 weapons of the missile and artillery forces, 12 combat helicopters and 8 fighting jets, as well as defensive units of the anti-aircraft forces have been involved in large-scale exercises.

Earlier on April 6, Su-25 and MiG-29 aircrafts carried out multiple tasks at night and under low visibility conditions -- take-offs and landings, destruction of air and ground targets, maneuvers at low and medium altitudes were the primary tasks conducted within the drills.

Hasanov said the armed forces' periodical military drills are conducted under the tasks assigned by Supreme Commander in Chief, Ilham Aliyev to improve the country's combat readiness, its sustainable capability and force structure of the armed forces.

Azerbaijan is the second - behind the United Kingdom, country in Europe in terms of armament after it increased its arms imports by 249 percent over the past ten years, SIPRI, Stockholm International Peace Research Institute reported.

Standing strong against Armenia's unceasing operations along the line of contact, formulating the necessary armament policy by adhering to international requirements comes as a significant move for the Azerbaijani leadership.

Azerbaijan's military strengthening goes in line with the country's legal right of liberating its occupied lands by means of war should it be necessary.

Azerbaijan's internationally recognized Nagorno-Karabakh territory has become a conflict zone following Armenia's aggression in the early 1990s. As a result of Armenia's armed invasion, 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory fell under Armenia's occupation. Nonetheless, the OSCE has attempted to foster a peaceful resolution to this conflict amid Armenia's persistent derailment.
