CIS observer criticizes OSCE monitors
The OSCE observation mission that monitored last Wednesday`s
presidential election in Azerbaijan committed violations, a CIS
observer has said.
Siyabshakh Shapiev, a representative of Russia`s Central Election Commission and member of the CIS observation mission, said observers of such an influential organization, instead of monitoring the polling process in accordance with the law were, themselves, causing irregularities and delaying the electoral process.
"In some of the polling stations where we conducted observations, OSCE observers had arrived late to observe the voting. Moreover, some of them were entering election booths and overseeing the filling-out of election papers [by voters], which, certainly, amounted to interference with the electoral process and a violation of the requirements of the law," Shapiev said.
He added that the CIS mission had warned OSCE observers after witnessing these violations.
