Parties running for elections may get state funds
Azerbaijani political parties taking part in presidential elections
will be funded from the state budget, deputy executive secretary of
the ruling New Azerbaijan Party has said.
Siyavush Novruzov told the press Monday that relevant proposals were made in the changes and addenda to the Law on Political Parties forwarded to parliament for approval.
"If the proposals pass, the parties that participated in this year`s presidential elections will be funded from the state budget," Novruzov said.
Azerbaijan held presidential elections on October 15.
As for funding parties that do not take part in elections, Novruzov said he did not deem this logical.
Along with the New Azerbaijan Party, the Umid (Hope) Party, Great Establishment Party, Whole Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Liberal-Democratic Party, Aydinlar (Intellectuals) party and Muasir (Modern) Musavat Party stood in last Wednesday`s poll.
