Azerbaijan allocates more money on science that any other CIS country, said Shamsaddin Hajiyev, Chairman of the Committee on Science and Education, at a plenary session of Parliament on February 24.

Commenting on the draft law "On Science", Hajiyev said the development of science was one of the priorities of independent Azerbaijan and remains so today.

Notable successes have been achieved in this field in recent years, he added. “There are also many problems in this area that are waiting to be solved. It is necessary to study the causes of these problems and create perfect legislation to address them.”

The experience of many countries, including Europe and the CIS, was taken into account during the preparation of the draft law, Hajiyev said.

The main directions of the project are to create liberal conditions, ensuring a competitive environment, improving scientific results and others, he said.

The establishment of the legal framework for the development of the scientific sphere provides a solution to most of the questions, he noted. The main objectives of the law under discussion are management of research activities and bringing it into line with international practice.

Today Azerbaijani state largely invests in the development of science. Azerbaijan hosted the first science festival in 2014.

The country pays great attention to the development of innovative entrepreneurship. In recent years, scientists have made great achievements in Azerbaijan and a material-technical base has been formed.
