Khojaly genocide promotional campaign in U.S. gains speed
Azerbaijani-American Alliance has organized a march as part of the large-scale information campaign about the Khojaly genocide.
The alliance launched this campaign at the initiative of Anar Mammadov, the founder of the AAA in mid February. The ongoing promotional campaign is currently being implemented in the U.S. capital, Washington after the demonstrations in New York city.
Hundreds of ads under the heading "Justice for Khojaly ... The Human Tragedy against Azerbaijan" observe a Khojaly mobile projection on buildings within this campaign in the politically and strategically important city buildings located in the United States.
Statistical figures about the tragedy are graphically displayed on buildings located in the central streets. This is done by a specially equipped vehicle that projects graphics on buildings in the evening and night in crowded areas. The lights of passing cars illuminate informational signs posted on the sides of city buildings.
Moreover, movable and stationary information boards on bus stops and on buses will be moving with "Justice for Khojaly" slogans on them. These vehicles will move with the stickers and banners on them for 3 weeks in all the residential areas of the city and will raise awareness of US residents about the Khojaly genocide.
The important step within the education campaign on this tragedy was a protest march held on February 23. More than 100 US protesters went in the streets of Washington to show their attitude to the Khojaly genocide. "Walking Billboard" is very effective in promoting a campaign, especially in areas where there are many pedestrians. This type of a campaign is mostly held in the areas with no cars and other vehicles.
The protesters held a rally on the 23rd anniversary of Khojaly genocide chanting slogans with the words of “Justice for Khojaly” and with posters reflecting information about the Khojaly genocide in central streets which drew the attention of people.
They also organized a rally in front of important government buildings and distributed numerous brochures, flyers and other information materials narrating on the Khojaly genocide that reflected the realities.
One of the most important and long-lasting marches was to the White House. White House traditionally hosts rallies and protests campaigns. They gathered in front of the White House to show their attitude to the Khojaly massacre, the most tragic incident in Azerbaijan's modern history.
Speaking about the campaign, Anar Mammadov said this is now the fourth year that Khojaly promotional campaign in the history of the modern world, has been launched in United States to raise awareness of the awful tragedy that befell the residents of Khojaly.
"Starting from the first year of this campaign, we have tried all the optimal, affordable and possible methods to spread the information about Khojaly tragedy to the world community and the people living on the other side of the ocean,” he said.
“Thus, such campaigns with the heading "Justice for Khojaly ... The Human Tragedy against Azerbaijan" are increasing every year. We are trying to implement the campaign in the most strategic states of the United States. New York and Washington are our particular target points to spread our history. Times Square and Broadway Street of United States are considered to be one of the busiest intersections in the world, hence this campaign is aimed to cover large audience in these areas to raise public awareness of the Khojaly tragedy.”
The main targets of the alliance is revival of national consciousness, convey information about tragedy to the world community.
There are also some special events on the tragedy in the main residence of the President of the Federal government in the United States and the three representative offices, diplomatic missions and international organizations in the Washington office.
“As you can see, the local people took part in the campaign. It is their attitude to the Khojaly tragedy and I’m sure that upon its completion more people will learn the truth about Azerbaijan and the Khojaly tragedy. Azerbaijan America Alliance promotes a multimedia campaign for the adoption and recognition of the Khojaly tragedy as genocide. In fact, Washington's official slogan itself is: Justice for All - "Justice for Everyone" ,” Mammadov stated.
It should be mentioned that the Khojaly promotional campaign will continue in United States through the rest of February.
