Kyrgyzstan’s mobile operator has ended its cooperation with the company illegally operating in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
Hikmat Hajiyev, Spokesperson of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said on January 20 that the Nur Telecom company, operating under the “O!” trademark in the Kyrgyz Republic, suspended the roaming agreement with the Karabakh Telecom company, illegally operating on the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
“As a result of intervention of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, Nur Telecom company operating under the “O!” trade mark in suspended its roaming agreement with Karabakh Telecom,” he said.
Hajiyev noted that Nur Telecom company in its letter dated January 20, 2015 addressed to the Azerbaijani Embassy, expressed its regret for incorrect information provided on the website of the company and adds that immediate measures were undertaken by the company to remove this incorrect information.
Hajiyev went on to add that in 2013, at the intervention of the Azerbaijani Embassy, roaming agreements of Megacom and BITEL telecom companies operating in Kyrgyz Republic with Karabakh Telecom were also suspended.
Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, after laying territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor that caused a brutal war in the early 1990s. Long-standing efforts by U.S, Russian and French mediators have been largely fruitless so far.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on its pullout from the neighboring country's territories.
