Turkish envoy visits frontline regions
Hulusi Kilic, the Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan, has visited the country`s Tovuz district, located on the frontline with Armenia. During the visit, the diplomat witnessed the daily living conditions of local residents.
Kilic, who saw for himself how these people face the threat of death on a daily basis due to ceasefire violations by Armenia, expressed his hope that the occupied territories of Azerbaijan would be cleared of Armenian invaders as soon as possible.
Kilic reiterated that his country stood by Azerbaijan at all times. He said Ankara backed a strictly negotiated resolution of the Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict.
"I believe that a new stage has begun in the Garabagh settlement. Turkey is now closely involved in the peace process. I am confident that the conflict will be resolved in peace and in Azerbaijan`s favor. War is a bad thing, and hostility is even worse. Therefore, I believe that prolonging a solution to the conflict is unacceptable."
Ankara has recently initiated a tripartite meeting of the Azeri, Armenian and Turkish foreign ministers to discuss the Garabagh conflict. Moreover, it has offered to set up a five-nation Caucasus union to bolster peace in the volatile region.
