President reviews construction process of major sport facilities

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Chairperson of the Baku 2015 First European Games Organizing Committee, Mehriban Aliyeva have reviewed ongoing works at major sport facilities in Baku.
At the Baku Olympic Stadium, President of the Azerbaijan
Football Federations Association Rovnag Abdullayev informed the
head of state about the works carried out so far here.
The foundation stone of the stadium was laid in June 2011. Works
are continuing rapidly and with high quality in the stadium. The
main parts of the construction works have already been
accomplished.
President Aliyev and the first lady also visited the interior
design of the Baku Olympic Stadium.
The 68,000-seat Baku Olympic Stadium would be built in a modern architectural style. It will occupy a special place among similar facilities across the globe. The stadium, to be built based on the international standards, will have stands with different functions, running tracks and other infrastructure.
The six-storey stadium occupies an area of 50 hectares. The facility will consist of main and secondary stadiums, an auxiliary building, as well as sections for VIP, CIP, media and disabled spectators.
The pitch will have four entrance gates with the stands having
26 gates. Taking into account that in accordance with Olympic norms
people come to the stadium on foot or by public transport a
3,103-capacity car park is also being built.
A 82,000 square meter green area is being laid out around the
stadium.
President Aliyev gave relevant instructions and
recommendations.
The head of state also visited the course of major overhaul at the
Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert Complex.
Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov informed him about the
works carried out here.
The building's construction works started in 1977 and were
commissioned in 1990.
The preparations for the project involved foreign and local
companies and specialists. Modern competition halls, a souvenir
shop, specials areas for media representatives, VIP rooms, a
broadcasting center, cafes and bars will be created here.
The gym is being established in line with the modern standards. It
will have saunas, massage rooms, a medical point, a 40-seat meeting
hall, a 250-seat canteen, a kitchen and other additional rooms.
The number of seats in the building, which covers an area of 55,000
square meters, has increased from 7,587 to 7,682. Some 142 VIP
seats will be established here.
A 200-seat press center, a cafe for journalists, a 40-seat
conference room, a 350-seat hall for volunteers and a cafe will be
created in the complex.
President Aliyev and the first lady also reviewed the adjacent area
where landscaping and reconstruction works ware being carried out.
They also gave instructions and recommendations.
