Armenian troops breach ceasefire with Azerbaijan

Over the past 24 hours, the Armenian armed forces violated ceasefire with Azerbaijan 12 times on various parts of the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported on November 12.

Armenian soldiers, stationed in the village of Aygepar in Armenia’s Berd district opened fire at the Azerbaijani armed forces’ positions in the village of Alibayli in Azerbaijan’s Tovuz district.

The Azerbaijani positions were also fired in the village of Qizilhajili in the Qazakh district from the positions in the village of Berkaber in Armenia’s Ijevan district.

The Azerbaijani positions were also fired at from the positions near the villages of Yusifjanli in the Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of the Khojavand district and the nameless heights of the Goranboy and Khojavand districts.

The enemy was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
