Azerbaijan, Austria enjoy good prospects to develop relations

There are good prospects for further development of relations between Azerbaijan and Austria.

This remark was made at a meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Second President of the National Council of the Austrian Parliament Karlheinz Kopf, who is on a visit to Baku.

During the October 20 meeting, the sides expressed their satisfaction with the level of bilateral cooperation, and stressed the importance of defining prospects for the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries' companies.

Later, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received Kopf and the sides stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary relations in the development of bilateral cooperation.

The sides also discussed the cooperation issues in economy, trade, energy, culture and education fields.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Austria were established in February, 1992. The legal framework for bilateral cooperation includes 38 documents.

There are over 50 Austrian companies operating in different fields of Azerbaijani economy.

Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Austria was about $333.46 million in the first eleven months of 2013, Azerbaijan's State Customs Committee reported. Azerbaijan's imports from Austria amounted to $79.58 million, while exports to Austria amounted to $253.88 million during this period.

There are also ample opportunities for further development of relations between the countries in political, economic, energy and other fields.
