Presidential candidate to set up new party
Gulamhuseyn Alibayli, the former executive of the opposition
Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) and presidential
candidate, plans to establish a new political party.
Alibayli, who used to chair the PFPA`s Supreme Council, said an office for the Aydinlar party`s headquarters had not yet been found.
The presidential hopeful said his party, which will pursue a right-centrist stance, would seek to become part of the opposition.
"We do not wish to set up a merely centrist party. I am stating, with confidence, that we will not support the government but will be an opposition-minded party. We will announce our political course after establishing the party."
Alibayli resigned from his post in August in protest against PFPA`s boycotting the October 15 presidential elections. Later, he allowed himself to participate in a poll.
