Campaigns for pres poll kick off
The campaign for Azerbaijan`s October 15 presidential elections
began last Wednesday.
Candidates will be able to use, free-of-charge, air-time on Public TV (PTV) channel.
Although the Election Code previously envisioned at least three hours of air-time per week, the time frame has been increased to six hours. Half of the time will be allocated on PTV and the other half on Public Radio.
Each hopeful will have eight minutes and 35 seconds of free air-time each day. Candidates will also be able to campaign on other TV channels, but there they will be required to pay for air-time.
Also, people will have the opportunity to view the polling on the Internet. Web-cameras will be installed at ballot stations in time for the elections, the Central Election Commission (CEC) chairman, Mazahir Panahov, said.
Cameras will be switched on at 8 a.m. on election day and will be in operation until the voting is over. Considering that the devices will be hooked up to the Internet, the polling in Azerbaijan can be watched from anywhere in the world.
