Baku, UNICEF eye judicial cooperation

Azerbaijan`s Justice Minister, Chairman of the Judicial-Legal Council Fikrat Mammadov has met with the newly appointed head of the UNICEF Baku office, Andro Shilakadze.

Mammadov underlined the fruitful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UNICEF, and spoke of the work done in protection of children`s rights in the country, judicial reforms and measures taken to develop juvenile justice, the ministry reported.

Shilakadze also hailed relations between the UNICEF and Azerbaijan, adding the country is rapidly developing in all spheres under President Ilham Aliyev`s leadership, and stressed First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva`s role.

The UNICEF official has also familiarized himself with the Justice History Museum.

The United Nations Children's Fund - UNICEF - works for children's rights, their survival, development and protection, guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

UNICEF is mandated by the UN General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.
