Foreign minister to visit three countries in Sept.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov has scheduled three
foreign visits this month.
Mammadyarov left for Brussels on Tuesday to hold talks regarding NATO`s Individual Partnership Plan being implemented jointly with Azerbaijan, ministry spokesman Khazar Ibrahim said. During the two-day visit, Mammadyarov is scheduled to meet with NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and other NATO officials.
On Thursday, the Azerbaijani minister will travel to Britain for a working visit, where he is expected to meet with British Foreign Secretary David Miliband and deliver an address at the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies, the world`s leading think-tank on political-military conflicts.
On September 20-29, Mammadyarov will attend the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York. During his visit to the United States, he is also to hold a number of bilateral meetings. On September 29, he will deliver a report at the UN session.
Two issues regarding Azerbaijan have been included in the agenda of the 63rd session, which opens Tuesday. One of them is "frozen" conflicts in the member states of GUAM - Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova - and their impact on international peace, security and development. Another provision of the agenda is called "The situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan."
While in New York, Mammadyarov is due to meet with the Turkish and Armenian foreign ministers, as well as the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group brokering a settlement to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict.
