The recent Ebola outbreak is the largest one in the history of mankind. It was first spotted in West Africa. Ebola is a severe, often fatal illness and one of the world's most virulent diseases.

Now, authorities in Azerbaijan are doing their best to prevent spreading of Ebola virus in the country. To this end, the situation on the Azerbaijani border is under control, Chairman of the State Customs Committee, Aydin Aliyev said.

He went on to add that the doctors of the SCC are working according to the instructions received from the Azerbaijani Health Ministry, keeping the situation under control.

The infection is transmitted by direct contact with the blood, body fluids (vomit, feces, blood) and tissues of infected animals or people.

The virus is affecting mostly four main countries Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A total number of victims, suffering from Ebola virus, has exceeded 1,552 people, including 120 health workers, World Health Organization (WHO) reports. Also the number of infected victims is more than 3,069 people.

Fever outbreak in Congo started in early August in a small village of the equatorial province in the northwest of the country.

Recently, at least 31 people have died of Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The seat of the virus is concentrated not far away from the city of Boende, 800 kilometers from the northeast of Kinshasa.

WHO stated that Ebola outbreak in Congo is not associated with the epidemic in West Africa.

This is the seventh outbreak of Ebola in Congo, where the virus was first identified in 1976.

There is no effective vaccine against Ebola for now. However, manufacturers in the U.S., Canada and Japan reported about the development of promising drugs.

The U.N. has already allocated $1.5 million to help the country fight the virus.
