Bryza cites firm bonds with Azerbaijan
Azerbaijani leaders and people should never question their
friendship with the United States, a senior State Department
official has said.
Matthew Bryza, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, said American officials might at times issue statements that could cause others` discontent, but such differences of opinion have already been ironed out between Washington and Baku.
"We have explained that in doing so, we are not trying to hurt anyone," Bryza told Voice of America radio station.
He said Azerbaijan is a country with liberalizing political system, rapidly improving democratic standards and rampant economic growth which enjoys steadfast and friendly relations with the U.S. US Vice-President Dick Cheney`s recent visit to Baku proves this.
"We are closely cooperating in the areas of security, energy and democracy," Bryza added.*
