President Aliyev holds meetings with CoE officials

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who is on a working visit to France, has held several meetings with officials of the Council of Europe.

Particularly, President Aliyev met with President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Anne Brasseur in Strasbourg on June 24. Brasseur welcomed President Ilham Aliyev.

The head of state signed the guestbook of the Council of Europe.

The parties discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Azerbaijan and PACE.

The parties also exchanged views over the work done in the fields of human rights and democratization in Azerbaijan, as well as the events to be arranged under Azerbaijan's presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe

Later, President Aliyev met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland.

The parties discussed the priority issues during Azerbaijan's presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

President Aliyev spoke of democratic development processes and reforms carried out in this field in Azerbaijan in recent years.

The parties exchanged views over the issues related to the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

As part of the visit to France, President Aliyev also met with President of the European Court of Human Rights Dean Spielmann.

The parties discussed the issues related to cooperation between Azerbaijani law-enforcement agencies and the European Court of Human Rights.
