Azerbaijani FM condemns Armenian terror

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, Elmar Mammadyarov has said Azerbaijan suffers from the Armenian terrorism.

Mammadyarov made the remarks in an interview with Egyptian media.

He said Azerbaijan is suffering from Armenians' terror acts, and Azerbaijani civilians are killed as a result of ceasefire violations by Armenian armed forces on the contact line of Armenian and Azerbaijani troops.

Mammadyarov further noted that Azerbaijan supports international community in fight against terrorism adding cooperation with Egypt in this area will be helpful.

He went on to add that Egypt recognizes Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Mammadyarov said Egypt also supports the UN Security Council's resolutions on settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which erupted back in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

Since a lengthy war in the early 1990s that displaced over one million Azerbaijanis displaced, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions.

The UN Security Council's four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal have not been enforced to this day.

Mammadyarov highly appreciated the resolutions adopted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. (OIC) The resolutions condemn Armenia`s military aggression against Azerbaijan and urge Yerevan to withdraw its armed forces from Azerbaijan`s occupied lands.

He also praised the stance of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to settle this conflict.

Mammadyarov further hailed his country`s political relations with Egypt saying there were good opportunities for developing bilateral economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of tourism and energy.

He said Azerbaijan is accomplishing the Azerbaijani International Development Agency's (AIDA) humanitarian projects in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Mammadyarov also spoke of some other topics including Azerbaijan's participation in the investment projects in the neighboring countries, the countries of Eastern and Central Europe and Asia aimed at turning the region into a transport center.

He stressed the importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Egypt, and expressed hope for further development of bilateral relations.

Mammadyarov also spoke about Azerbaijan's recent achievements, underscoring the efforts that the country will make in the next 10 years to become one of the world's developed nations.

The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in April, 1992. The legal framework for bilateral cooperation includes 49 documents.
