Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman was on a three-day visit to Azerbaijan to discuss prospects for further relations development.

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met a Malaysian delegation led by Anifah Aman on June 6.

Addressing the meeting, Mammadyarov noted that Malaysian foreign minister's visit to Azerbaijan would contribute to development of relations between the two countries.

The sides hailed relations between Azerbaijan and Malaysia and stressed the importance of expanding political consultations and common legal framework.

Mammadyarov thanked his Malaysian counterpart for supporting Azerbaijan's fair position on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to resolve the problem on the basis of the norms and principles of international law.

Adding that during the conflict, Azerbaijan's territories were occupied, one million people were ousted from their homelands and a bloody ethnic cleansing policy was carried out there by the Armenians against Azerbaijani civilians, Mammadyarov said that Yerevan ignores four resolutions of the United Nations Security Council adopted in 1993 that reaffirm the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and demand immediate, complete and unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian occupying forces from all occupied regions.

The sides also exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Malaysia in various fields including energy, investment, tourism, culture, ICT, science and education.

Azerbaijan's Emergency Situations Minister, Colonel-General Kamaladdin Heydarov then met the Malaysian delegation.

The guests were informed about the work carried out in Azerbaijan in the field of disaster prevention and response measures. Moreover, the meeting discussed the importance of expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan's Emergency Situations Ministry and the relevant government agencies in Malaysia.

Addressing the event, Aman said during his second visit to Baku, he witnessed the rapid development of the Azerbaijani capital.

The guest added that during the upcoming visit of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak to Azerbaijan, documents will be signed on cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy, investment, tourism, culture, information and communication, as well as technology, science and education.

He also stressed that Malaysia is interested in broad cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of disaster prevention and response measures.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.

This was the second visit of the Malaysian foreign minister to Azerbaijan. Anifah Aman first visited Azerbaijan in June, 2013.
