Azerbaijan records spurt in ceasefire violations by Armenia
By Sara Rajabova
The ceasefire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line has been
broken 60 times in numerous directions on May 28, the Azerbaijani
Defense Ministry reported on May 29.
The armed forces of Armenia, located in the village of Berkaber of
Armenia's Ijevan region, opened fire at the positions of
Azerbaijani Armed Forces located in the village of Gizilhajili of
Gazakh region.
Also, the Azerbaijani positions, located in the Kemerli village of
Gazakh region, took fire from the potions located in the village of
Barekamavan of Armenia's Noyemberyan region.
Moreover, the Azerbaijani armed forces underwent fire from the
positions located near the village of Gorgan, Horadiz, Ashagi
Seyidahmadli of Fizuli region, Yusifjanli, Shikhlar, Merzili of
Aghdam, Chayli, Chilaburt of Terter, Kuropatkino of Khojavend
region and at the nameless heights in Goranboy, Jabrayil and Goygol
regions.
The opposing side was silenced with return fire.
The Armenian armed forces have intensified the ceasefire breaches on the contact line of troops between Armenia and Azerbaijan since the beginning of 2014. As a result of ceasefire breaches, several Azerbaijani soldiers were shot dead on the frontline.
Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.
Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994, but Armenia has continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal.
Peace talks mediated by Russia, France, and the US have produced no results so far.
