Azerbaijan, Mauritania seek to boost ties

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Morocco concurrently accredited to Mauritania Tarik Aliyev has handed over his credentials to Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.

The president recalled his visit to Azerbaijan in 2010, and noted that his country was interested in further expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan, AzerTag state news agency reported.

Abdel Aziz said his country had rich natural resources, stressing the importance of cooperation in energy field.

Aliyev, in turn, said Azerbaijan attached special importance to developing its relations with Mauritania.

He noted there were great opportunities for expanding bilateral ties, emphasizing the significance of increasing joint efforts to enhance relations in political, economic, cultural, and educational areas.

The President expressed confidence that the ambassador would contribute to developing the bilateral ties during his tenure.

Following the ceremony the ambassador was interviewed by the local press.
