New professions to appear in Azerbaijan
By Jamila Babayeva
Azerbaijan's rapid and stable economic development has prompted a boost in all economic spheres.
All economic sectors are developed by applying new modern technologies and require skilled personnel, and innovations in the economy encourage the creation of new professions in the country.
The State Employment Service has submitted offers to the Ministry of Economy and Industry on training new technical specialists.
"We suggested the training of nearly 20 professions at technical secondary schools. The number of specialists in chemical industry is low. The newly established Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park requires specialists in modern chemical industry," Deputy Chairman of the State Employment Service Shahbaz Khalafov told AzerNews.
He said a shortage of skilled technical specialists is currently observed in the country.
"The local labor market lacks technical personnel mainly in oil and chemical industries and computer engineering," he added.
He said technical professions have lost their prestige among Azerbaijani youth.
"Some 60 percent of young people enter the labor market without any profession and face difficulties in finding jobs," he noted.
Khalafov believes that professional and technical education can be developed as a separate sphere with serious reforms.
"Secondary schools should pay special attention to the development of technical education. Modern technical secondary schools can be established on the basis of the existing ones," he said.
