Azerbaijan transfers 14 Iranian detainees

Fourteen Iranian citizen detained in Azerbaijan have been handed over to the representative of the Iranian judicial system.
The detainees were transferred at the Astara checkpoint on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border and will serve the rest of their sentences in the Iranian jails, the Iranian official in charge of consular affairs at the Iranian Embassy in Baku, Mohsen Molaei told Trend Agency on April 6.
Molaei said the prisoners were transferred under the agreement signed between Iran and Azerbaijan on the exchange of prisoners.
He further said the prisoners are serving sentences for sale and trafficking of drugs and the remaining part of the sentence will be served in Iran.
Molaei said nine more Iranian citizens serving sentences in Azerbaijan will be transferred to his country in the coming days.
In late March, eleven Iranian inmates were also transferred to the country from Azerbaijan and two Azerbaijani prisoners, who were serving in Iranian jails, were transferred to Azerbaijan.
He also added currently, 200 Iranians serve punishment in Azerbaijan, noting that most of them are serving sentences for sale and trafficking of drugs.
