Co-chairs of Anglo-Azerbaijani society mull further cooperation

Azerbaijani co-chair of the Anglo-Azerbaijani society, Nargiz Pashayeva met with newly elected co-chairman of the company from the United Kingdom, a member of the House of Lords, Lord Herman, who replaced late Lord Fraser.

The meeting took place at the House of Lords of the British Parliament and attended by Azerbaijani ambassador to UK, Fakhraddin Gurbanov and executive committee members of Anglo-Azerbaijan society, AzerTag state news agency reported.

The co-chairs held an extensive exchange of views on the current activities of the company and prospects of development.

During the discussions, it was noted that Anglo-Azerbaijani society contributes to the development of relations in the cultural and humanitarian fields between the two countries and voiced confidence in the successful development of the society, whose activities cover new areas.

They emphasized a broad potential in strengthening ties between citizens of the two countries, and in promoting interaction between the business communities.

Praising the work of the Anglo-Azerbaijan society, Pashayeva noted that the organization has a great contribution to the development of relations between the two countries.

Pashayeva congratulated Lord Herman on his election as co-chair of the Anglo-Azerbaijani society, and voiced her confidence that he would make a great contribution to the further activities of the society.

In turn, Lord Herman expressed his gratitude for the high trust of the Anglo-Azerbaijani society and said they are willing to work closely with Azerbaijani co-chair to expand the activities of the organization.

The Anglo-Azerbaijani Society is the principal organization drawing together the cultural, charitable and other links between Azerbaijan and the UK.

Established in 1997, the society supports Azerbaijani-British relations in all spheres and assists charitable endeavors in Azerbaijan, as well as keeps members closely informed on the developments in Azerbaijan and increases public awareness about Azerbaijan in the UK.

The membership comprises major British companies in the oil, banking, insurance, engineering, services, communications, law and other sectors.

Azerbaijan and the UK have benefited from close bilateral partnership and cooperation since 1992 in the framework of international organizations such as the United Nations, OSCE, Council of Europe, and NATO.
