Russian ships unable to leave Azerbaijan’s territorial waters
By Jamila Babayeva
Russian dry cargo ships Vatan-1 and Zangan-1 which were recently detained in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea still cannot leave Azerbaijan's territorial waters.
The news was announced by Trend Agency which quoted Deputy Chief of Azerbaijan State Maritime Administration Ehtiram Rahimov as saying.
He said both ships have certain technical requirements, which do not meet those established in Azerbaijan, and the commercial issues related to port fees have not been resolved so far.
"Bulk carriers have international crew and belong to the same ship-owner. Both ships will be able to leave the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea after eliminating technical inconsistencies and performing commercial obligations," he said.
He noted that ship Gahraman-1 previously left Azerbaijan's territorial waters without fulfilling statutory obligations.
Rahimov added that in case of the non-fulfillment of obligations set by the Azerbaijani side, specific measures will be undertaken for this cargo ship's subsequent trips.
All of these ships are owned by BTC-Trans Company and engage in carrying cement clinkers along the Russia-Azerbaijan line.
