Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev started his working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands on March 24.

The aim of the visit is to attend the Nuclear Security Summit which will be held in The Hague on March 24-25.

The Nuclear Security Summit 2014 is a world summit, aimed at preventing nuclear terrorism around the globe.

The first Nuclear Security Summit was held in Washington DC in 2010, in order to draw attention, at the highest possible level, to the need to secure nuclear material and thus prevent nuclear terrorism. Some 47 countries and three international organizations participated in the first summit.

The second summit was held in Seoul in 2012. Some 53 countries and four international organizations were invited. The first summit was concerned with making political agreements, while the follow-up in Seoul focused on the progress made on implementing those agreements.

The third summit, in The Hague in 2014, will chart the accomplishments of the past four years, identifying which of the objectives set out in the Washington Work Plan and the Seoul Communiqué have not been met and proposing ways to achieve them.
