Labor Ministry drafts bill on disabled persons’ rights
The Azerbaijani Labor and Social Protection Ministry developed a new bill "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" with a view to bring the legislation of Azerbaijan in line with the UN Convention "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The ministry also reported that the project on "National Action Program for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" is being discussed with relevant structures for the implementation of the UN Convention provisions.
Along with social welfare of persons with disabilities, these documents reflect issues such as the protection of persons with disabilities from any insulation as full and equal members of society, empowerment of their employment, a joint study with others, creating opportunities for realization of their intellectual and creative potential, and access to existing infrastructure.
The bill is posted on the ministry's website www.mlspp.gov.az for submission of proposals.
Azerbaijan acceded to the UN Convention "On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities" on October 2008.
