The possibilities of developing cooperation in the field of education between Azerbaijan and Vietnam were mulled at a meeting of Vietnamese Education and Training Minister Pham Vu Luan and Baku's Ambassador to Vietnam,Anar Imanov.

The meeting particularly discussed issues of exchange programs of education specialists, teachers and students for enhancing cooperation in the field of education, organization of educational exhibitions, development of relations between universities of the two countries, expanding the legal framework in the field of education, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

The meeting emphasized that in the period of the Soviet Union, thousands of Vietnamese were educated in the universities of Azerbaijan, especially in Azerbaijan Oil Academy and Baku State University, and currently these graduates work in various positions in the private and public sector.

Currently, as the sides noted, this tradition continues and 33 Vietnamese students receive education in Azerbaijan through the Petrovietnam Company.

During the discussions, the parties agreed to continue cooperation between the embassy and the ministry.

Azerbaijani-Vietnam cooperation is developing speedily. The Azerbaijan-Vietnam inter-parliamentary friendship group was established in Hanoi in November. The group includes six members of Vietnam's National Assembly.

In October, Vietnam simplified the visa regime for Azerbaijani citizens, making it possible for Azerbaijani citizens to obtain a visa upon arrival at Vietnam's airports.

Azerbaijan officially opened its embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam on December 16. Vietnam does not have an embassy in Azerbaijan, which has made it difficult for Azerbaijani citizens to obtain visas. According to the new rules, Azerbaijani citizens only need to provide the relevant documents given by the Vietnamese travel agencies regarding their trip in order to get a visa.
