The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry will strengthen and reinforce implementation, enhance controls, and improve the management system of road transport projects.

The news was announced by Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov at a meeting at the ministry on January 14.

Alongside major work carried out in Azerbaijan in the sphere of maintenance, repair, and reconstruction of roads and bridges, Mammadov also emphasized the shortcomings in the timing of project implementation, quality indicators, and the area of road protection, the ministry reported.

"Despite adequate funding, the implementation of road projects is delayed, and there is a lack of effective measures against large and overloaded trucks that are destroying the roadway," the minister said.

Mamedov cited the large number of contracting and subcontracting companies and the absence of strong control over their activities, and the unsatisfactory quality of controls on road maintenance among the other reasons of the delay in implementing road projects and the impact on the quality of implementation.

The minister ordered the necessary measures in these directions.

Mammadov noted the need for regular checking of contracts with contractors and subcontractors, tightening of contracts in terms of quality and safety, and involvement of highly professional companies in the future.

At the meeting, the minister also got familiar with the state of the implementation of various road projects in the country and in the capital, work progress on the Baku-Alat-Astara-Iran, Muganli -Yevlakh road, and other projects.
