OSCE Baku office changes status

By Sara Rajabova

The OSCE Office in Baku transformed into the OSCE Project Coordinator in Baku from January 1, 2014.

The development results from a decision by the OSCE Permanent Council that brought together all the 57 OSCE states on July 26, 2013.

The Project Coordinator will implement the following tasks based on the decision:

- Supporting cooperation between Azerbaijan's government and the OSCE and its institutions aimed at implementing OSCE principles and commitments;

- Planning and implementing projects between the relevant authorities of Azerbaijan and the OSCE and its institutions covering all the three dimensions of the OSCE's comprehensive security concept and taking into account the needs and priorities of the Azerbaijani Government;

- Maintaining contacts with governmental and non-governmental bodies, local authorities, universities, research institutions, and NGOs;

- Performing other tasks deemed appropriate by the Chairperson-in-Office or other OSCE institutions and agreed upon between the Azerbaijan government and the OSCE.

The OSCE Project Coordinator in Baku will be headed by a Coordinator who will be based in Baku together with his/her international and local staff.

The Coordinator will provide regular progress reports to the OSCE Permanent Council. The content of such reports will be shared beforehand with the Azerbaijani Government.

The OSCE Office in Baku launched its operations in the country on July 17, 2000.
