Azerbaijan's communications companies to change form of ownership in 2014
By Nazrin Gadimova
Form of ownership of Azerbaijan's Aztelecom and Baku Telephone Communications state companies will be changed in 2014.
The news was announced by Azerbaijan's Communications and Information Technologies Minister Ali Abbasov on December 6.
The minister said proposals for transforming these operators in joint stock companies (JSC) have been prepared jointly with Azerbaijan's State Property Issues Committee.
The privatization process of these companies is expected to begin after the completion of the restructuring process.
First, the stationary network's state operators will unite into a single telecommunications company - a joint stock company- and the state will own 100 percent of its shares.
In the next step, the share in JSC will be submitted for privatization, a step that will contribute to the emergence of private companies and their regulatory body in the market.
The long-term plans of the ministry include privatization of all the companies under its control, after which the ministry will act solely as a regulator in Azerbaijan's telecommunications market.
