Increased price of gasoline to lead higher taxi tariffs

After Azerbaijani Tariff Council made a decision to increase the retail price of gasoline and diesel fuel, the wholesale price of some oil products rose in December 3, 2013.

The tariff for the sale of natural gas to the enterprises that produce electricity, aluminum, chemical products, and steel also increased.

Retail price for a liter of A-95 gasoline is set at 0.8 manat per liter, and the retail price of A-92 and A-80 motor petrol is 0.7 manats per liter. The retail price diesel fuel was set at 0.6 manat per liter.

The price of one liter of A-95 gasoline was 0.6 manat, A-92 and A-80, 0.55 manat, and diesel fuel, 0.45 manat.

As a result of the increase in fuel prices, Baku Taxi Company, an operator of TX4 cars, will decide whether to increase fares.

As Head of the company Ilgar Gasimov said, the salaries of the company's drivers are formed based on travel cost. So increasing the tariffs requires analysis.

"Currently, increasing the tariffs for our services is not under consideration, but the new circumstances which are connected to the increase of fuel price in the country need to be studied," he said.

Commenting on the impact of the new fuel prices on the cost of public transport, head of the public relations department of the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry Namig Hasanov said an increase in the cost of public transport in Azerbaijan is not expected in the near future.

The ministry did not appeal to the Tariff Council on increasing the cost of public transport, Hasanov said.

Speaking about possible discontent among bus drivers, which may arise as a result of changing fuel prices, Hasanov said that bus drivers are chosen by the route operators who will be able to resolve this issue themselves.

"After changing fuel tariffs, the ministry has not received any complaints from the route operators," Hasanov said. "But I can say no increase in the cost of public transport is expected."
