Deputy Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Altaf Asghar made the remark in an interview to AzerTAc.

President Ilham Aliyev is a state leader, who accurately outlines the development goals. That is why separate directions of development in Azerbaijan complement each other, Asghar said.

When asked about the Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway project, the deputy secretary general said the project would add to the reputation the North-South international transport corridor.

He took the initiative and revived the discussions with real offers. "Of course, from a theoretical point of view, the issue is a topic of discussion. But, on the initiative of the ECO, we brought interested parties closer. The participation of the Finnish, Turkmen, Uzbek and Kyrgyz diplomats in Tehran at the 2nd meeting of working group over the railway project proves that as the Economic Cooperation Organization we could expand the interest on the project," he noted.

The working group has decided to establish a railway between Azerbaijan and Iran.

"I have no doubt that the next two months will see adoption of more important and interesting decisions in this direction. The project will ensure Azerbaijan access to the Arabian Peninsula, a big part of Asia and even to the Far East," he said.
