Azerbaijan's parliament, the Milli Majlis, has voted for Artur Rasizade's candidacy for the post of prime minister.

The candidature of the current prime minister was nominated for the post on October 22.

According to the Constitution, the Azerbaijani president appoints the prime minister with the consent of the parliament.

The president proposes the nomination of the prime minister's candidature for parliamentary discussion within one month from the date of beginning to fulfill his duties or no later than two weeks after the resignation of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The parliament makes a decision on the candidature for the prime minister's post no later than one week from the date of nomination.

If this rule is not observed or if the candidatures for the post are not approved three times, the Azerbaijani president may appoint a prime minister without parliament's consent.

Earlier, President Ilham Aliyev signed an order on the execution of powers of the Cabinet of Ministers.

The president vested the execution of powers of the Cabinet of Ministers, which had resigned in accordance with Article 116 of the Constitution, in the cabinet of the previous composition until its new make-up is formed.

Ilham Aliyev won the October 9 presidential elections with majority of votes and the results of the election were approved by the country's Constitutional Court. Thus, Aliyev will lead the country for the next five years.
