By Aynur Jafarova
The U.S looks forward to working closely with President of Azerbaijan and the country's government in the coming five years, U.S Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar said in a statement on inauguration of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on October 21.
"As with any partner, we have our differences, but we also have many shared critical interests," the statement said.
Morningstar also mentioned in his statement that the U.S. will continue to work with the Azerbaijani government and civil society to promote democratic values and principles in the country.
"We will also work actively with the Government of Azerbaijan to help resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict," Morningstar said. "The U.S.-Azerbaijani bilateral agenda is broad and ambitious; it includes cooperation on regional security, counter-terrorism, energy security, and economic diversification. Over the next five years we hope to expand and deepen our relationship with the people and Government of Azerbaijan."
A solemn inauguration ceremony of the new elect President of Azerbaijan, who will lead the country for next five years, was held at Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan's Parliament) on October 19.
Ilham Aliyev, 51, won the October 9 presidential elections with over 84 percent of votes and the Constitutional Court has approved the results of the election.
