2013-presidential election best for technical equipment : Halil Akinci

The 2013-presidential election in Azerbaijan is the best for the technical equipment, Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States Halil Akinci said at the press-conference in Baku on October 10.

The presidential election voting, which took place on Wednesday, was completed at 19:00 local time throughout Azerbaijan.

Akinci said three observation groups of the Council worked in three polling stations in the unoccupied territories of Agdam region. The mission didn't reveal irregularities, Akinci said.

He also noted that there were different observation missions in all polling stations.

"We congratulate the CEC with the great work thanks to which the election was held freely and democratically and at a high level," he said.

The Azerbaijani presidential election was held on October 9. The current head of the state, the candidate from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev leaves competitors far behind.

According to the first results, incumbent President Ilham Aliyev won the elections.

This year ten candidates compete for the top job, including chairman of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, President Aliyev, Umid Party leader Igbal Aghazade, self-nominated candidate Zahid Oruj, chairman of the United Popular Front Party Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Modern Musavat party leader Hafiz Hajiyev, Azerbaijan Social Democratic Party chairman Araz Alizade, National Revival Party leader Faraj Guliyev, chairman of the Adalat (Justice) party Ilyas Ismayilov, Jamil Hasanli from the opposition National Council as well as chairman of the Azerbaijan Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloghlu.

The number of eligible voters in the country is nearly 5,145,000. The voting is conducted in 5,492 polling stations. Thirty-eight polling stations were set up abroad.
