Website crashed over its coverage of conflict
Azerbaijan's popular Russian-speaking news website and forum,
day.az, was attacked by Russian hackers on Monday, its chief
editor, Elnur Baimov, said.
Baimov linked the hacking with the web-page's coverage of Russia's military intervention in Georgia. He said the site's reporting on the unfolding hostilities had angered the Russians.
"Ever since the conflict erupted, there have been hacker attacks from Russia," the editor said.
He said the technical capacities of the website have been boosted to ward off new attacks and the site is already back up and running.
Hackers, acting on orders from the Russian secret service, have crashed a number of Georgian state-run and news agency websites in the past few days, according to observers.
