Turkish cell operator ends cooperation with separatists
The Turkish mobile phone operator, Avea, has ended its cooperation
with the separatist regime in Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh, an Azeri
region under Armenian occupation.
The company's contract with the Garabagh Telecom cellular operator, working in the self-proclaimed Upper Garabagh republic, has been invalidated, the Baku-based Lider TV channel said.
Avea and Garabagh Telecom had signed a roaming deal in February 2005. Garabagh Telecom had reportedly deceived the Turkish company, citing Armenia as its office address, thus being able to sign the agreement. But after notification by the Azerbaijani government, the Avea administration investigated the matter and ended its partnership with Garabagh Telecom after discovering that it was based, not in Armenia, but in the Upper Garabagh region of Azerbaijan.
