Mothers of large families to get benefits in Azerbaijan

Mothers with five or more children will be provided with special
benefits in Azerbaijan, according to the planned amendments to the
law "On social allowances" discussed at a meeting of the
parliamentary social policy committee on September 30.
The committee chairman, MP Hadi Rajabli, commented that the law will be amended by a relevant article, which envisions providing allowances to women with five or more children.
According to Rajabli, another addendum to the law stipulates that the allowance is granted to women who deliver and bring up more than five children when the child turns one and on the condition that the child is in good health.
The draft law also envisions that the amount of the granted benefits is set by a relevant executive authority.
The bill was suggested for consideration at a plenary session of the Milli Majlis.
Rajabli also said that at present, there are more than 10,000 women in Azerbaijan who have more than five children.
In the Soviet period, the MP said, there were more than 20,000 women with more than 10 children in Azerbaijan alone.
Rajabli said that approximately 90,000 marriages a year are concluded in Azerbaijan.
"At the same time, only 165,000 children are born annually," he added.
