U.S. delegation visits Press Council
U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar visited the Azerbaijan Press Council on September 30 to familiarize with the activity and plans of the organization,AzerTag state news agency reported.
Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov briefed the ambassador on the aspects of the upcoming presidential election and participation of the media in the process.
Stressing that one of the priorities of the Press Council is to ensure the safety of journalists during large scale events, Amashov said that a hotline was created for quick settlement of the emerging problems.
Amashov went on to say that additional representatives from the Interior Ministry were involved in the Permanent Commission of the Press Council on the resolution of problems between the media and government agencies.
Mr. Morningstar spoke on the essentiality of the election process for all societies, stressing dynamic activity of press in this.
The ambassador underlined the civil society organizations' inevitable role in the election processes.
The sides also discussed issues of further exchange of experience between U.S. and Azerbaijani press services.
