Azerbaijan intends to organize a high-level meeting with a view to develop cooperation between the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) , Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev said at a briefing on September 30.

Abdullayev said that Azerbaijan, which has an important role in the Dialogue of Civilizations, successfully plays the role of a bridge and is recognized by the international community as a tolerant country.

This initiative of Azerbaijan in the UN Security Council is positively considered, Abdullayev said.

Azerbaijan's humanitarian activities in Africa, Latin America and Asia are highly appreciated by the international community. Azerbaijan aims to support the development and strengthening of countries in these regions, Abdullayev said.

The priority of Azerbaijan's chairmanship in the UN Security Council is to protect justice in the world, he said noting that Azerbaijan is one of the centers of tolerance in the world.

Abdullayev went on to say that chairmanship of such an authoritative structure puts great challenges before the country and imposes responsibility.

Azerbaijan will make every effort to adequately fulfill all the tasks standing before the country as the chairman of the UN Security Council, Abdullayev added.

Azerbaijan has been chairing the UN Security Council from October 1.
