IDEA holds seminar on fighting air pollution
By Nigar Orujova
The International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) has organized an interactive seminar on ways of fighting pollution of the ozone layer over the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, September 16.
About 30 young people interested in environmental protection and a representative of the Ecology and Natural Resources Ministry participated at the seminar.
Deputy director of the national environmental monitoring department at the ministry, Matanat Avazova, said the growing use of energy and an increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere could cause a hole in the ozone layer, which may enlarge in the future. This problem may pose serious challenges for the future of the planet.
The seminar looked into several types of the harm caused by the ozone hole to humans. The expert also heard the opinions of the attendees and answered their questions. She called on participants to pay more attention to the solution of related problems.
IDEA regularly holds such seminars in the country.
IDEA has been promoting innovative approaches to the solution of environmental problems since its inception on July 12, 2011 by the Vice President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva.
IDEA is based on the principles of dialogue, action, leadership and education -- all essential components for equipping a generation to foster positive and sustainable environmental change. The campaign is mainly focusing on the power of youth and considers it as an important tool to change the way we behave and consume our surrounding natural world.
The campaign's mission includes creation of a real and virtual community of young people regionally and internationally, with a shared passion for the environment, nurturing virtual community through an open dialogue which provides information, inspiration and practical calls for environmental action, as well as empowering each member of the community to become an ambassador and leader for local environmental awareness and action.
