President Aliyev receives President of World Chess Federation
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received on September 16 President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, AzerTag state news agency reported.
Noting the importance of active promotion of the "Chess in school" programme in Azerbaijan, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov said the significance of the State Program approved by President Ilham Aliyev in 2009 to develop chess in the country.
He praised the state attention to development of chess in Azerbaijan.
The FIDE President described victory of Shahriyar Mammadyarov at the 2013 World Rapid Chess Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, as a strong signal of development of chess in Azerbaijan.
The Head of State expressed confidence that the "Chess in school" programme would continue on a firm basis in Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev said chess was successfully developing in Azerbaijan, adding chess schools have been reconstructed in all cities of the country.
The Azerbaijani leader highlighted preparations for the International Chess Festival Baku Open 2013.
The President thanked Kirsan Ilyumzhinov for support of Azerbaijan`s initiatives.
