Egypt`s national holiday marked in Azerbaijan
The embassy of Egypt in Azerbaijan organized an official reception
on the occasion of July 23, the Day of Revolution.
Ambassador Youssef El Sharkawy, addressing the event held a day later, spoke of the path of development covered by the Arab republic in the 56 years that have passed since the historic date.
"We have achieved great progress in a variety of fields and taken a worthy place in the world community," he said.
The diplomat welcomed the expanding relations between friendly Egypt and Azerbaijan, saying the meetings held during Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s official visit to Cairo in May 2007 and the documents on cooperation signed had contributed to further deepening of bilateral ties.
Azerbaijani First Vice-Speaker Ziyafat Asgarov said Azerbaijan and Egypt have maintained cultural relations since the ancient times. "Since Azerbaijan regained independence, these relations started to rapidly develop in other fields as well."
Asgarov recalled that Egypt was one of the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan`s independence, voicing confidence that cooperation between the two countries would be successfully continued.
Amb. Sharkawy is completing his diplomatic mission in the country. Romanian Ambassador Nikolae Ureche presented to him a keepsake on this occasion during the ceremony.
The reception was attended by Azerbaijani parliament members, ambassadors and other high-ranking representatives.
