Azerbaijan has visa-free travel with CIS states
Visa-free travel from and to Azerbaijan is possible with all other CIS states except Turkmenistan for an indefinite term and to neighboring Turkey and Iran with restrictions.
Azerbaijani citizens traveling to Iran are allowed to stay in the country for a week, and only a roundtrip ticket is required for the purpose. The same regulations apply to Iranian nationals, however, those staying in Azerbaijan for over a week are required to obtain a visa and pay a fee of $60 every month, according to the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry.
Azerbaijanis and Turks visiting the two countries can do away without a visa for three months. If the stay is longer than 90 days, they are to contact their home country`s embassy and obtain a visa sticker. The fee for the fourth month of stay is $10 and $60 for the following months.
Travel to Russia is visa-free but some restrictions are in place. Azerbaijanis who registered in the neighboring country and received "a red passport" can stay in Azerbaijan without a visa only for one month.
Holders of Azerbaijani diplomatic and service passports may travel to Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, China, Hungary, Cuba, Laos, Mongolia, Slovenia, Romania, Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Morocco, Jordan and Macedonia without visas.
The countries whose citizens have to obtain visas the least are the United States, Finland and Denmark. Their nationals are allowed to travel to and from the greatest number of countries. These three countries are followed by Germany, Sweden, Ireland, Britain, France, Japan and Italy.
Iran and Afghanistan receive and send the least number of visitors without visas.
Azerbaijani passports vary by appearance depending on their purpose. The national foreign passport is green, while a service passport is blue and a diplomatic passport is red. National passports are issued by a relevant body of the Interior Ministry, while the other two types of passports - by the Foreign Ministry.
