Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev opened five tunnels constructed under Gelebe Square multi-storey tunnel-type road junction project in Baku on September 2.

Last years, construction of tunnels, road junctions, bridges in Baku and regions have intensified for regulation of motor traffic. One of such road construction projects was launched by the Akkord Company for regulation of traffic at Gelebe Square around Ganjlik metro station, prevention of jams and provision of traffic regime without traffic lights.

The work envisaged by the "State Program on Renewal and Development of Road Networks in Azerbaijan in 2006-2015s" is successfully carried out in accordance with the international standards to combine modern elements of road infrastructure.

The facility, designed by Singapore's Surbana International Consultants, was constructed by Akkord Company.

Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov informed the Head of State about the project, including huge reconstructive works in the vicinity. The area has been completely renewed.

President Aliyev inspected the model of the project and was informed on the technical and economic parameters of the project.

The president inspected the tunnels, and addressed the constructors. He praised their work: "Everything is for the welfare of people, for the citizens of Azerbaijan," the president emphasized.

President Aliyev also inspected refurbishment and reconstruction work to improve internal roads in Mashtaga, Baku, on September 2.

Under the instructions of the president, expedient and consecutive measures were taken to speed up socio-economic development of Baku and its suburbs, to improve and modernize the road and transport infrastructure of the capital.

A special Plan of Action for 2011-2013 to speed up socio-economic development of Baku settlements envisages complete modernization of the road infrastructure, including construction of pedestrian passages, bridges and tunnels.

Mayor of Baku Hajibala Abutalibov informed the president on what had been done as part of execution of the State Program.

President Ilham Aliyev met with local residents, who expressed gratitude to the Head of State for attention to solving their problems.
