A delegation including representatives of the Azerbaijani Youth and Sport Ministry and UNDP and led by Deputy Minister Intigam Babayev held its last meetings at the UN New York Headquarters in the framework of preparation for UN Model conference in Baku, UNDP Azerbaijan reported on September 2.

The delegation met with Cihan Sultanoglu, UNDP Assistant Administrator and UNDP Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS.

Addressing the meeting, she said that holding UN Model in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sport is a sign of close relations between UNDP and the Government of Azerbaijan.

Also, Azerbaijani youth' success achieved in world sport was highly appreciated during the meetings with Mahis Nasser, Director of Outreach Division of UNDPI and Eric Dienes, Liason Officer of UN Office on Sport for Development and Peace.

It was noted that hosting such international events like 2014 European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, 2015 first ever European Games, 2016 Chess Olympiad, 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games and 2019 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Baku were the result of a dynamic and successful state policy.

The discussions also focused on reforms held in the youth sector of Azerbaijan, the State Program and strengthening of joint efforts for using the existing experience as a successful model in other member states.

Intigam Babayev stressed mutual interests for better (higher level) cooperation with UNDP and other specialized agencies during the discussions held in warm and friendly environment and invited them to visit Azerbaijan.

UN Security Model will be held in Baku in October. A four-day conference will bring together 45 university students and graduates of 15 states currently serving as members of the UN Security Council, including Azerbaijan.

A study tour of Azerbaijan delegation to UN New York Headquarters ended on August 30.
