By Aynur Jafarova
The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on October 9. This decision was taken at a meeting of the Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC), which took place on Friday.
"According to the Electoral Code, the powers of the Azerbaijani President expire on the third day of the third week of October. This day falls on October 16," CEC chairman Mazahir Panahov said at a meeting.
Panahov proposed to hold the presidential elections on October 9, as Qurban holiday will be celebrated in Azerbaijan on October 16 and this day is a day-off in the country.
The proposal was accepted by the CEC members and approved at the meeting.
According to the CEC's calendar plan, adopted on Friday, the official propaganda of candidates will start 23 days before the presidential elections.
After CEC Secretary Arifa Mukhtarova said beginning from the day of publication of a decision on the date of elections, the nomination of presidential candidate starts. "So, the candidate has a right to appeal to the CEC to nominate his/her candidacy and get signature list," she underscored.
