81.2 percent of voters would support President Aliyev: poll
81.2 percent of people surveyed by the Rey (Opinion) Monitoring Center said they will vote for Ilham Aliyev at the upcoming presidential elections, the center reported.
"Three candidates have so far been nominated for the post of the
President of Azerbaijan: President Ilham Aliyev, Musavat Party
chairman Isa Gambar and screenwriter Rustam Ibrahimbeyov," the
center said.
According to the survey, less than two percent of respondents would
cast their votes for Isa Gambar, while about one percent said they
would vote for Rustam Ibrahimbeyov.
Replies to these questions were obtained as a result of the nationwide poll, which was conducted by the Rey Monitoring Center.
86.1 percent of potential voters are not aware of the nomination of Rustam Ibraimbeyov as "a single candidate of the opposition".
Also, 91.1 percent of respondents did not know that according to the opposition's intention, if "a single candidate" wins the election, his tenure will last no more than two years.
Asked whom they would offer as a candidate of the opposition, one percent of respondents named Rustam Ibrahimbeyov (the figure was 1.5 percent in the capital Baku, while in the rest of the country it was 0.8 percent). Almost three times as many people named Isa Gambar and 1.6 percent named Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) leader Ali Kerimli.
The report was prepared based on a nationwide public opinion survey conducted on July 22-28. The survey covered more than 1,500 people aged 18 years and older. The error margin is three percent.
